Ingredients
  

Main
  • 3/4 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon liquid smoke optional

Equipment

  • Small saucepan (2 to 3 quart capacity)
  • Wooden spoon or heatproof spatula
  • Measuring spoons and measuring cups
  • Whisk (optional)
  • Glass jar or airtight container for storage

Method
 

  1. Gather and measure all ingredients before starting.
  2. Add ketchup to a small saucepan and set over medium heat.
  3. Stir in brown sugar and apple cider vinegar until the sugar dissolves.
  4. Add Worcestershire sauce and stir to combine.
  5. Sprinkle in smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper while stirring constantly.
  6. Add salt and liquid smoke, stirring until fully combined.
  7. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, reduce heat to medium-low, and let bubble for 8 to 10 minutes.
  8. Remove from heat, let cool slightly, taste and adjust seasoning as needed.

Notes

Store cooled sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three weeks or freeze for up to three months.
