Method
- Run a lime wedge around the rim of each glass to moisten it completely. Pour coarse salt onto a small plate and dip each glass rim into the salt, twisting gently to coat evenly. Set the prepared glasses aside.
- Roll the limes firmly on your counter before cutting them in half. Juice enough limes to get 1/2 cup of fresh juice, then juice your orange to get 1/4 cup. Strain out any seeds or large pulp pieces.
- Add the lime juice, orange juice, agave nectar, and water to your blender. Blend on low speed for just 5 seconds to combine the ingredients thoroughly. Taste the mixture and adjust sweetness if needed.
- Add the ice cubes to the blender with the liquid mixture. Blend on high speed for 20-30 seconds until you reach your desired consistency. For a slushy texture, blend longer until the ice is fully crushed. For a chunkier texture, pulse just a few times.
- Stop the blender and check if the mixture pours easily but still has visible ice crystals. If it's too thick, add a tablespoon of water and pulse again. If it's too thin, add a few more ice cubes and blend briefly.
- Pour the blended margarita carefully into your prepared glasses, being careful not to disturb the salt rim. Fill each glass about three-quarters full.
- Cut a small slit in a lime wedge and slide it onto the rim of each glass. Serve immediately while icy cold and perfectly blended.
Notes
Always use fresh lime juice rather than bottled for the brightest, most authentic flavor. Chill your glasses in the freezer for 15 minutes before serving to keep drinks colder longer. Adjust sweetness based on your limes since acidity varies by fruit. The drink will start to separate and melt quickly, so serve immediately for the best texture and temperature. Pro Tip: Freeze lime juice in ice cube trays ahead of time, then use those instead of regular ice cubes to prevent your margarita from getting watered down as the ice melts.
