Ingredients

  • 1 pound pork shoulder cut into cubes
  • 2 cans 15 oz each navy beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup water

  • Wooden spoon

Method
 

  1. Cut the pork shoulder into bite-sized cubes.
  2. Heat a little oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium heat.
  3. Add the pork cubes and brown on all sides, about 6-8 minutes.
  4. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until the onion is soft and fragrant, about 3-5 minutes.
  5. Stir in the drained navy beans, mixing well with the pork and onions.
  6. Add the barbecue sauce, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper, stirring to combine.
  7. Pour in the water and bring the mixture to a boil.
  8. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 1 hour and 30 minutes.
  9. Let the dish sit for 5 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to develop further.

Notes

Serve with cornbread or over rice, and let sit 5 minutes before serving.
