- Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add a splash of oil; sauté the chopped onion until soft and translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the ground beef to the skillet and break it up with a wooden spoon; cook until browned, about 5-6 minutes.
- Stir in Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper, cooking for 1 minute to blend flavors.
- Reduce heat to low and let the beef mixture simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- While the meat simmers, toast the hamburger buns in a separate pan or toaster until lightly browned, about 2-3 minutes.
- Spoon a generous portion of the cooked beef mixture onto the bottom half of each toasted bun.
- Top the meat with optional toppings such as shredded cheese, pickles, mustard, or ketchup, as desired.
- Place the top bun on each sandwich and serve immediately while warm.
