Method
- Brew 1 cup of strong coffee using a coffee maker or French press with a double-strength ratio (about two tablespoons of ground coffee per six ounces of water).
- Pour the hot brewed coffee into a small saucepan and add 1 cup granulated sugar.
- Heat the mixture over medium-low heat for 5 minutes, stirring constantly until the sugar dissolves and the syrup becomes glossy.
- Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in 1 teaspoon vanilla extract and a pinch of sea salt.
- Let the syrup cool in the saucepan for about 2 minutes until it is safe to handle.
- Optionally, strain the syrup through a fine mesh strainer into a glass jar to remove any solids and achieve extra smoothness.
- Allow the syrup to cool completely to room temperature before sealing the jar, about 15 minutes.
Notes
Store in a sealed glass jar in the refrigerator for up to three weeks, stirring before each use. For longer storage, freeze in ice cube trays for up to two months.
