Ingredients

Main
  • 4 cups guavas peeled and chopped
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup pectin optional for thicker jam

Equipment

  • Large pot
  • Wooden spoon
  • Masher or blender
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Sterilized jars with lids

Method

  1. Peel and chop the guavas into small pieces to release their juices.
  2. In a large pot, combine chopped guavas, water, and sugar.
  3. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring frequently.
  4. Once boiling, use a masher or blender to break down the guavas into a smoother consistency.
  5. Stir in fresh lemon juice and pectin if using.
  6. Reduce heat to low and let the mixture simmer for about 30 minutes.
  7. To check if the jam is ready, place a spoonful on a cold plate; if it holds its shape, it’s done.
  8. Pour the hot jam into sterilized jars, leaving a little space at the top, seal tightly and let cool.
