Main
  • 500 grams of fresh bhindi okra, washed and sliced
  • 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds
  • 1 medium onion finely chopped
  • 2 medium tomatoes chopped
  • 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon of red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon of garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnishing

Equipment

  • Large skillet or frying pan
  • Cutting board
  • Sharp knife
  • Spatula or wooden spoon
  • Measuring spoons

Method

  1. Start by washing the bhindi thoroughly under running water.
  2. After drying the bhindi with a kitchen towel, slice it into 1-inch pieces.
  3. In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat.
  4. Once the oil is hot, add the cumin seeds and let them sizzle for a few seconds.
  5. Add the chopped onions to the skillet and cook until they turn translucent.
  6. Next, incorporate the chopped tomatoes along with turmeric, red chili powder, and salt.
  7. Gently fold in the sliced bhindi, ensuring it’s well-coated with the spice mix.
  8. Cover the skillet and let it cook for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
