Ingredients

Main
  • 1 ½ cups warm water 110°F to 115°F
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 packet 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup baking soda
  • 1 large egg beaten, for egg wash
  • 2 tablespoons ranch seasoning mix
  • Coarse sea salt for topping

Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Kitchen towel
  • Small saucepan

Method

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture. Stir until a dough forms.
  3. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes.
  4. Place the kneaded dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise for about 30 minutes.
  5. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  6. Once risen, divide the dough into 12 equal pieces and shape each into a pretzel.
  7. In a small saucepan, bring 6 cups of water and baking soda to a boil. Boil each pretzel for about 30 seconds.
  8. Place boiled pretzels on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  9. Brush with the beaten egg and sprinkle with ranch seasoning and coarse sea salt.
  10. Bake for about 15 minutes until golden brown.
