Ingredients

Main
  • 5 lb prime rib roast
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 onion quartered

Equipment

  • Roasting pan
  • Meat thermometer
  • Cutting board
  • Sharp knife
  • Small saucepan

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 450°F (232°C).
  2. Rub the prime rib with olive oil, salt, and pepper.
  3. In a roasting pan, sear the seasoned prime rib in the oven for 20 minutes.
  4. Reduce the oven temperature to 325°F (163°C) and add the quartered onion and minced garlic around the roast.
  5. Continue roasting for about 1.5 hours or until the internal temperature reaches 130°F (54°C) for medium-rare.
  6. Remove the prime rib from the oven and let it rest for 20 minutes before slicing.
  7. In a small saucepan, combine beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and drippings from the roasting pan. Simmer for about 10 minutes to enhance the flavors.
  8. Slice the prime rib against the grain and serve with the au jus on the side.

Notes

For the best flavor, always let your prime rib rest before slicing.
