Ingredients

Main
  • 2 pounds of pig feet cleaned and cut into pieces
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 4 cloves of garlic minced
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 teaspoon of black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon of salt
  • 1 tablespoon of vinegar
  • 4 cups of water or enough to cover the feet
  • Optional spices: chili flakes thyme, or your favorite seasoning

Equipment

  • Large pot or Dutch oven
  • Cutting board
  • Sharp knife
  • Wooden spoon
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Method

  1. Start by thoroughly cleaning the pig feet under cold water.
  2. In a large pot, heat a bit of oil over medium heat.
  3. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing until translucent.
  4. Once the aromatics are ready, add the pig feet to the pot and sear briefly.
  5. Add the bay leaves, salt, black pepper, and any optional spices.
  6. Pour in enough water to cover the pig feet completely.
  7. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low.
  8. Let it simmer gently for about 2 hours.
  9. After 2 hours, check for tenderness; the meat should pull away from the bone easily.
  10. Serve the pig feet hot, spooning some broth over them.
