Tofu Poke

Tofu Poke is perfect for those in your family who don’t or won’t eat raw fish. It is also a great way to make bland tofu interesting to eat. We also like this recipe because it is way cheaper than having to buy fresh ahi or aku. Make sure to use firm tofu for this recipe. Yakidofu or Japanese grilled tofu can also be substituted for firm tofu.

Tofu Poke

1 block firm tofu (cut into 1-inch cubes), drained
2 tsp. toasted sesame seeds
½ large red chili pepper
¼ cup coarsely chopped ogo limu (seaweed)
¼ cup shoyu
2 Tbsp. chopped green onion
1 tsp. grated ginger
1 Tbsp. sesame oil

Place tofu cubes in a collander and drain, then place tofu in serving bowl.Sprinkle sesame seeds, ogo limu, chopped onion, ginger and chili pepper over tofu cubes and toss lightly. Mix shoyu and sesame oil together and pour over the rest of the ingredients. Toss lightly and chill for half and hour. Optional: Add kamaboko (fishcake) and round onions (diced). Makes approximately 6 servings.
